The PTI on Thursday tabled a no confidence motion in the Balakot tehsil council against nazim and naib nazim belonging to the rival PML-N.
Imran Khan’s party enjoys the support of treasury councillors for the move.
“We have a clear majority in the house to oust nazim and naib nazim, who have miserably failed to deliver,” PTI councillor Ibrahim Ahmad Shah told reporters in Balakot.
Earlier, Mr Shah submitted a no confidence motion against nazim Rustam Khan to tehsil council secretary Sabeel Ahmad and PML-N councillor Liaquat Khattana against naib nazim Abdul Qudus.
Both Mr Shah and Khattana told a news conference that their group had the support of 16 members in the 19-strong house.
“We have no personal vendetta against nazim or naib nazim.
It is our principled move to oust both of them as they didn’t even execute their first annual development programme when other councils have already executed three annual development programmes,” said Mr Shah.
The councillor said the tehsil government had miserably failed to develop consensus among councillors, including those from the treasury, over the annual development programme and other core issues of the tehsil and thus, showing the lack of its interest in resolving the people’s problems.
He said the council’s secretary was bound by the Local Government Act, 2013, to call the council’s session for voting on the no trust motion against nazim and naib nazim.
Mr Khattana said Balakot was destroyed in the 2005 earthquake but the tehsil government had failed to put it back on the way to development.
