Contracts awarded for Dir uplift schemes

TIMERGARA: Assistant director of the local government department, Lower Dir, Ziaul Haq on Thursday announced there would be no compromise on the quality of work on development projects to be executed under the supervision of the tehsil municipal administration in Munda and Samar Bagh tehsils of the district.

He was addressing a function in Samar Bagh after the conclusion of bidding for development projects approved for 16 village councils in Kambat and Munda areas.

The function was attended by tehsil nazim Samar Bagh Saeed Ahmad Bacha, Munda tehsil nazim Humayun Khan, councillors and contractors.

The projects were given to the contractors, who gave the lowest rates.

Mr. Haq said TMAs, tehsil nazims and councillors would keep an eye on the execution of the projects.

He said corruption and use of substandard material in projects could be checked through the local government system.

The official asked the village council nazims to report weakness or faults in projects to the relevant authorities for intervention.

He said the LG and rural development department would declined cheques to contractors if work on the respective projects wasn’t carried out in line with the prescribed rules.

ROAD ACCIDENT: The driver was killed and his brother suffered critical injuries when their car plunged into a ravine in Sar Lara area of Samar Bagh tehsil on Thursday.

The police said the accident occurred after driver Naeem lost the car’s control.

They said the driver died before he was shifted to the hospital, while his brother Nooruddin was first taken to the THQ Hospital Samar Bagh and then referred to the DHQ Hospital Timergara due to critical condition.

The Samar Bagh police registered a case and began investigation.

OFFICE-BEARERS NAMED: The Jamaat-i-Islami Lower Dir chapter on Thursday named its office-holders for the next two years.

According to a news release issued by the JI here, Maulana Asadullah will be the party’s district chief, Dr Inayatul Haq, Maulana Mohammad Gulab, Haji Fazal Wahab, Syed Noorul Wahab and Rahimullah deputy chiefs, Syed Jehan Badshah general secretary, Shafiullah joint secretary, Javed Iqbal deputy general secretary, Yaqubur Rehman information secretary and Janul Haq finance secretary.
