Councillors want control over Karak royalty funds

The local government representatives have launched a campaign to force the government to utilise oil and gas royalty and production bonus funds through them instead of lawmakers.

They termed illogical the provincial government’s decision regarding utilisation of these funds through the parliamentarians.

The decision was made at a meeting attended by district councillors and village council nazims here on Sunday.

In the first phase, the he local government representatives said, an awareness campaign would be launched among the councillors and nazims, who would then contact the people on the matter. They expressed optimism that their struggle would bear fruits.

The participants said the district had hefty oil and gas royalty and production bonus funds but the money was being ‘wasted’ by lawmakers to improve their political standing.

They said since they were working at the grassroots level and knew well the problems of people, they should be authorised to spend the uplift funds on welfare of masses.
