Education, economy: British Council, AJK discuss higher education

A British Council delegation led by Country Director Rosemary Hilhorst discussed collaborative programmes with universities in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and recognised the government’s long standing contribution and support to the development of education in Pakistan.

The president of AJK spoke of the challenges of providing universal education and described the meeting as a step in the right direction, said a press release.

During the visit, the president spoke about the strong cultural ties between UK and AJK: “About a million people from Azad Kashmir are settled in the United Kingdom and playing their positive role for the progress and development of the country. A large number of them are the members of European and British Parliaments and also representing local bodies’ institutions.”

Rosemary pledged to continue the British Council’s partnership with the government, particularly in programmes related to youth empowerment, community engagements and enhancing the capacity of educational institutions.
