Entrepreneurship: Carnival to promote gender equality

LAHORE:

Female entrepreneurs and home-based workers displayed their craft at a mela held on Monday at Department of Gender Studies of University of Punjab. The women who had put up stalls were trained under a funded programme for gender equity. The event was inaugurated by Women Parliamentary Caucus Chairperson Shaista Pervaiz Malik, who, while appreciating the efforts of women, said women should be provided with further training opportunities so that they could become economically independent.

The carnival was held under the series planned to commemorate 16 Days of Activism, a campaign to end violence against women.

Around 24 stalls were set up by female entrepreneurs and home-based workers.

The stalls showcased clothes, baskets and other hand-made items created by women supported by different non-government organisations that are part of the programme.
