LGs termed harbingers of change in KP

Secretary Local Government Elections and Rural Development (LGE &RDD) Jamaluddin Shah has said formation of local bodies’ institutions was aimed at empowering masses.

Speaking at the workshop organised by Department For International Department-funded Sub-National Governance (SNG) Programme here, he said the LGE & RDD in the third phase of the installation of the local government system in the province had developed a permanent capacity building plan for all tiers of the local government to better equip them for public service.

He added the LGE & RDD worked out training plan in collaboration with partners to enable the district governments to serve the citizens in a more effective way.“The planning and budgeting processes have been changed in view of the new local government system,” he added.

The official said that the LGE & RDD in collaboration with the SNG had developed a comprehensive training plan for districts and local governance bodies, including village and neighbourhood councils to overcome these challenges.

He said that 664 government officials and elected representatives, including 52 women, were trained with the assistance of SNG.The official added that 23 workshops were held in Haripur, Nowshera, Buner, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan and Karak districts to train the officials and representatives on main areas of decentralised development planning, budget making for government officers and orientation of elected members of the district councils on Local Government Act 2013.
