Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Lt Gen Omar Mahmood Hayyat visited Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab head office here Monday and appreciated the pre-flood arrangements of PDMA Punjab.
During the visit, Director General (DG) PDMA Mudassar Waheed Malik briefed the NDMA Chairman regarding pre-monsoon and pre-flood arrangements made by the PDMA. DG PDMA informed that PDMA has started pre-flood arrangements and all District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) have been taken on board. Mock exercises have also been conducted in different districts.
He said that six meetings have been conducted on Cabinet Committee on Floods under the chairmanship of Provincial Minister for Disaster Management Maher Ijaz Achlana, and all the Provincial and Federal Departments have been requested for pre-flood arrangements. He said that PDMA Punjab has also started integration with other departments like Irrigation, Rescue 1122 and Met Office etc.
in order to keep all stakeholders on board. He said PDMA Punjab has also introduced Inventory Management System which will help in real time monitoring. He said PDMA Punjab has also installed Satellite Based Tracking System and have also taken Disaster Risk Reduction Initiatives.
Chairman NDMA appreciated PDMA Punjab’s IT based initiatives and said the other provinces should follow the suit. He assured all-out efforts and support to PDMA Punjab in case of any emergency.
