‘Positive attitudes turn society towards development’

Positive attitudes of people can turn the society towards development. These views were expressed by Kadhan Chairman Jahan Khan Chandio while addressing the participants of an event on the closing ceremony of USAID funded project ‘Enhancing water and sanitation governance access’, in two union council of Badin district, implemented by Indus consortium.

The event was organised at Badin Gym Khana by Indus Consortium (IC) on Wednesday.

Talking about the project, the chairman said, “Strong coordination with different departments and institutes at each level would make the progress effective and would prove to be beneficial for the residents” and added, “This was an exemplary initiative under which the local community, district authorities and local government worked together.”

The event was participated by a large number of residents of union councils including women, elected representatives and representatives of civil society, journalists and others.

Badin District Council Member Fida Hussain Mandhro while addressing the participants said that the district council has received numerous schemes submitted by the representatives of the community, and supported by the IC, regarding health and hygiene and water improvement. He ensured that he will try his best to incorporate these schemes in the upcoming budget of the council.

Addressing the participants of the event, IC Chairman Jamshed Fareed said that they were fortunate that international organisations like USAID were working for the progress and development of the local people.

Under the project outcomes, representative of Kadhan Union Council (UC) Alliance Noor Nisa Jamali shared that they jointly collected around Rs500,000 and did the cleaning of Rajwah canal. “All the members of water users association gave the financial contribution, as well as time, to accomplish the task which resulted in the availability of water at the tail end of the area,” she said.

In a second case study, she said, villagers of UC Kadhan constructed 195 low-cost latrines, and made the village open defecation free, which are successes of the project.

On the occasion, Liaquat Ali, Iqbal Hyder Qambrani, Fiza Qureshi, IC Program Implementation Manager, Bakhtawar Mallah, Nazir Ahmed Jatt, Amir Hassan Memon, Imtiaz Ahmed Bhurgari and others also addressed the participants.

At the event’s conclusion, success stories were presented which enthralled the participants and appreciation awards were also honoured upon elected representatives, representatives of government and non-government institutes. On the occasion, local communities of targeted villages appreciated the efforts and support of small grants by USAID Ambassador’s Fund Programme which made the development of the area possible.
