Tehsil govt organises tent-pegging event in Mansehra

MANSEHRA: A tent-pegging event was organised by the tehsil government of Mansehra outside the Police Lines here on Sunday, which attracted a large number of people.

“This is the beauty of local government system that we have been able to provide such an entertainment to our people after a long time,” Khuram Khan Swati, the tehsil nazim, told mediapersons at the event.

Tent-pegging teams from Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa showed their talent at the event. He said that the tehsil government had taken the step for revival of traditional and culture events like tent pegging as such events couldn’t be held regularly during past many years due to militancy.

The game lovers also admired the strong horses in the traditional style by showering currency notes on them. On arrival of the teams a contingent of a traditional music group played the famous musical lyrics in Punjabi, Pashto, Hindko and Urdu languages to welcome them.

“We recently organised the bulls race at this place in which people from remote villages also showed up and enjoyed the traditional game,” he said.

Raja Ayaz, focal person of the event, said that it was not any easy task to organise such a big event in current situation, and lauded the tehsil nazim and councillors for providing an opportunity of entertainment to the local people. The winners were given cash prizes at the end of the event.
