Workshop for village councillors concludes

Speakers at the concluding session of a training workshop for councillors on Wednesday asked the local government representatives to learn the process of planning and presenting budget and other financial matters.

The three-day workshop for village councillors was arranged jointly by the Sarhad Rural Development Programme (SRSP) and Community Driven Local Development (CDLD). Members of all the village councils in the district attended the workshop.

On the occasion, SRSP district manager Saba Khan said the local government representatives should be aware of LG Act, 1993, which enabled them to prepare and present their budgets, bring resolutions in their respective councils and exercise their powers within the limits.

He said there had been 198 village councils in Lower Dir and the SRSP’s ongoing programme aimed to build their capacity. He said the district and tehsil councillors would also be provided with such training once it was completed at village council level. The participants were given certificates on completion of the training.
