City council demands justice for slain local govt representative

The council of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation in its meeting on Monday strongly condemned the killing of Korangi’s union council 13 vice chairman, Muhammad Rashid, by unidentified persons.

The local bodies’ representatives passed a unanimous resolution demanding the Sindh government to ensure his killers are arrested without any delay.

The members also asked the government to ensure safety of the local government’s officers. The resolution was presented by leader of the house Aslam Shah Afridi, Aman Khan Afridi, Mohammd Junaid Mukati and supported by Syed Akbar Hashmi, Alam Zaib Alai and Opposition leader in the council Karamullah Waqasi.

In the resolution, the members also prayed for the deceased and offered condolences to his family members. The council’s meeting, chaired by deputy city mayor Dr Arshad Abdullah Vohra, was adjourned till Tuesday (today). Leader of the house Aslam Shah Afridi thanked the council members for supporting the resolution.

A senior Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan workers, the vice chairman was gunned down on late Sunday night by two people in the Rifah-e-Aam Society. He died en route the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. His funeral prayers were offered at a mosque in Rifah-e-Aaam Society; they were attended by MQM-P chief Dr Farooq Sattar, besides other party leaders.
