WANA: The farmers of South Waziristan Agency (SWA) on Monday staged a protest against the non-provision of wheat seeds and demanded investigation into the alleged corruption by the officials of the Agriculture Department.
The protesting farmers gathered in front of the office of Agriculture Department in Wana, the administrative headquarters of South Waziristan, and staged the protest. The charged protesters tried to enter the office and ransack the furniture.
Talking to reporters Said Wali Khojalkhel Wazir, Gul Janan Wazir and others said that they were being forced to visit and wait for the seeds for the last 10 days.
They alleged that the Manager of the Agriculture Department Sadiq has reportedly sold hundreds of bags of the wheat seeds, to be given to famers free of cost, in the black market and dogging the farmers on one and other pretexts.
They alleged that there were serious allegations of corruption against the said officer in the past but no action was taken against him. They threatened to launch a protest campaign if they were not given seeds and any action was not taken against the said officer.
